The artist that I am going to talk about is the female vocalist in the Josh Abbott Band named Kacey Musgraves who recently came out with a song called Merry Go 'Round. This song talks about the stereotypical life of what living in a small town is like. For example, she talks about how if you don't have two kids by 21 then you're probably going to die alone and that no matter what you believe you had to go to church on Sunday. Instead of explaining all of them I will just put the lyrics up that will be followed by the video of Merry Go 'Round by Kacey Musgraves.

If you ain't got two kids by 21,
You're probably gonna die alone.
Least that's what tradition told you.
And it don't matter if you don't believe,
Come Sunday morning, you best be there in the front row like you're supposed to.

Same hurt in every heart.
Same trailer, different park.

Mama's hooked on Mary Kay.
Brother's hooked on Mary J.
Daddy's hooked on Mary two doors down.
Mary, Mary quite contrary.
We get bored, so, we get married
Just like dust, we settle in this town.
On this broken merry go 'round and 'round and 'round we go
Where it stops nobody knows and it ain't slowin' down.
This merry go 'round.

We think the first time's good enough.
So, we hold on to high school love.
Sayin' we won't end up like our parents.
Tiny little boxes in a row.
Ain't whatcha want, it's whatcha know.
Just happy in the shoes you're wearin'.
Same checks we're always cashin' to buy a little more distraction.

'Cause mama's hooked on Mary Kay.
Brother's hooked on Mary J.
Daddy's hooked on Mary two doors down.
Mary, Mary, quite contrary.
We get bored, so, we get married.
Just like dust, we settle in this town.
On this broken merry go 'round and 'round and 'round we go
Where it stops nobody knows and it ain't slowin' down.
This merry go 'round.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary.
We're so bored until we're buried.
Just like dust, we settle in this town.
On this broken merry go 'round.
Merry go 'round.

Jack and Jill went up the hill.
Jack burned out on booze and pills.
And Mary had a little lamb.
Mary just don't give a damn no more.

I have decided to talk about Blink-182 because they were the band I listened to when growing up, and two of their greatest songs are All The Small Things and Dumpweed. It might just be the people I know but it seems like everyone knows the song All The Small Things, and I think it's because it is very catchy and rememberable. I like this song a lot so without saying anymore, here is the video for All The Small Things by Blink-182.

The next best song is Dumpweed, because of its same catchy tune and awesome guitar entrance. Here is the video for Dumpweed by Blink-182.

This week in class we listened to the Beatles white album. The only songs I really knew were Back in the U.S.S.R. and Revolution, which are great songs that are very well known. I like Back in the U.S.S.R. because I think it is a catchy tune that is very easy to sing along to. I like Revolution and have heard of it because of the movie Across the Universe. Here is the clip of Revolution from the movie Across the Universe.

I know I have talked about them before but I have to talk about them again because they are so good, and that is the Zac Brown Band. I have discovered two great songs by them, and they are Natural Disaster and Day That I Die. These are great songs that are very catchy and have good lyrics. Here are the lyrics to Natural Disaster which will be followed by the video.

Had lips like candy
Hair floated like water
Skin like velvet made
The whole damn world slow down
She was a preacher's daughter
Never did what daddy taught her
And the rebel in her soul
Brought her to me

The river was cold
And the river was wide
She flowed from the mountain
Straight across the great divide
And her heart ran cold
But her love runs deep
She's fire on the mountain
Wrecking everyone she meets

She's like rain when she rolls in
But that sunshine in her thunder
Makes the loneliest heart wonder
If the ride is worth the pain
Might not be storm clouds in sight
Oh but don't you worry friend
She's coming around the bend
She's holding lightning in both hands

Lord please know
It's not time for me to go
The river has my heart
She's the keeper of my soul
On one side of the water
Sweet everlasting grace
The other side could end your life
Or steal your breath away

She's like rain when she rolls in
But that sunshine in her thunder
Makes the loneliest heart wonder
If the ride is worth the pain
Might not be storm clouds in sight
Oh but don't you worry friend
She's coming around the bend
She's holding lightning in both hands

She's a natural disaster
She'll tear the land in two
She's running to be running
Cause it's all she knows to do
She's a tumbleweed rolling
A river running wild
A hurricane blowing
She's the calm after the storm
Under an Appalachian sunset sky

She's like rain when she rolls in
But that sunshine in her thunder
Makes the loneliest heart wonder
If the ride is worth the pain
Might not be storm clouds in sight
Oh but don't you worry friend
She's coming around the bend
She's holding lightning in both hands

She's like rain
She rolls in
But there's sunshine in her thunder
She's coming around the bend
She's holding lightning in both hands

I really like that song, but I like Day That I Die even more because it's about a guy that has a melody stuck inside of him that he is trying to figure out what to do with it, but then he realizes that he is suppose to use that melody and create music for people till the "day that he dies." Here are the lyrics followed by the video for Day That I Die by the Zac Brown Band.

Early morning in a motel room,
Sunshine trying to creep on through.
Lost Sleep but I found a tune,
Stuck inside my head.
Cigarettes and tank of gas,
Headed off to nowhere fast,
Gotta find a way to make this feeling last.

Cause I believe that I,
Was born with a song inside of me.
Never question why,
I just kept on chasing that melody.
And as time goes by,
It's funny how time can make you realize,
We're running out of it.

On the day that I die,
I wanna say that I,
Was a man who really lived and never compromised.
And when I've lived out my days,
Until the very end,
I hope they find me in my home, a guitar in my hands.
I hope they find me in my home with my guitar in my hands.

Whoa, oh.
Whoa, oh.

A part of dawn to be ashamed of,
But good people are supposed to be up.
But I found peace with the path I took,
As I lay down my head.
Crossroads you gotta choose,
Which way do we win or lose.
But every bone in my soul says I sing on through.

Cause I believe that I,
Was born with a song inside of me.
Never question why,
I just keep on singing these melodies.
And as time goes by,
Its funny how time can make you realize,
We're running out of it.

On the day that I die,
I wanna say that I,
Was a man who really lived and never compromised.
And when I've lived out my days,
Until the very end,
I hope they find me in my home, a guitar in my hands.
I hope they find me in my home with my guitar in my hands.

Whoa, oh.
Whoa, oh.
Whoa, oh.
Whoa, oh.

We all go, we all go,
It's all over 'fore you know.

I believe that I
Was born with a song inside of me.
Never question why,
I just keep on singing these melodies,
And as time goes by,
Its funny how time can make you realize,
We're running out of it.

On the day that I die,
I wanna say that I,
Was a man who really loved and never compromised.
And while I live out my days,
Until the very end,
You can find me in my home, a guitar in my hands,
And you can find me in my home with my guitar in my hands.

Whoa, oh.
Whoa, oh.
Whoa, oh.
Whoa, oh.

This week we listened to some Pink Floyd, which I had never listened to, and to be honest I did not like it. It was not my type, I couldn't really understand them and they just weren't working for me. Something that we listened to that I did like was the Janis Joplin song Piece of My Heart, but the version I liked much better than Janis Joplin's version is Faith Hill's version. I feel like Janis's version is way to grungy and tough, but Faith Hill's version is much more understanding and easier to listen to. Another great artist who is a country singer that we listened to this week is Patsy Cline, and I have a personal connection to her because when I was younger my mom would sing her song Crazy in my church's variety show. She was great, and sounded a lot like her, so when I was listening to Pasty Cline's song Crazy I felt like I had gone back in time and was listening to my mom singing it. This was without a doubt my favorite part about this week.

Going on with the theme of my other blogs is another great country music singer. This great performer is from Waco, Texas and his name is Pat Green. I love Pat Green, the first time I saw him live was my first year of ACL in 2010. He was amazing, and that is still the best concert I have seen in the two years I have been to ACL. Pat Green has tons of great songs but the two songs I like the most are Wave On Wave and Carry On. These songs are great to sing along to and listen to and the first one I want to show is Wave On Wave. Here is the video of Wave On Wave by Pat Green.

The next song I want to show, that I like even more than Wave On Wave is Carry On. This song is so good that I have no words to describe how I feel about it. Here is the video of Carry On by Pat Green.

This week in class we listened to some Jimi Hendrix, and I didn't know a single song except for Purple Haze, which is an awesome song. I have never listened to Jimi Hendrix before, but I think if I heard some of his biggest songs, I would recognize them. Purple Haze has a great guitar part in it that makes the song even better. As I said before I don't really know any Jimi Hendrix songs except for Purple Haze, but I would like to know more than just one, because from what I've heard, Jimi Hendrix is amazing!
